Life of the working mum and artist...
Being a 40 something mum in charge of a 4 year old should be enough to keep anyone busy.
Not me I like to have lots of projects on the go; so recent months have been no different.

Last month I worked on a children's photo shoot creating funky hair do's and working with my good friend and makeup artist Dominic. It was my daughters first job with mummy, I don't often mix work 'n' family, but I knew she'd love to see what mummy does and being a children's shoot it was a pretty safe bet.

Trixie assisted mummy doing the girls hair and was fascinated watching Dominic doing makeup. She entertained the models in true Trixie style and I think she put the photographer through her paces. All in all I think it was a success all round and I can't wait to see all the hard work in print. I have seen some of the prints and they look GOOD!

A few months ago I worked on the Chandler Warren Designs fashion show in New Oxford Street, London as part of Dominic's team. Chandler Warren are two young and very creative designers who like different, as do I. So working on this job and being able to create some bespoke looks was great and really enjoyable. For me the icing on the cake was when Julian Kynaston 'liked' my instagram pictures of the looks I created. Julian founded Illamasqua makeup brand in November 2008.

Bridal season has been in full swing taking me all over the South East, I had the pleasure of looking after Dan & Jen, two beautiful brides who tied the knot in Bentley, Farnham.

Then more recently I looked after Melissa and her rather large bridal party at Cooling Castle, Rochester. Where I broke an all time record completing 7 hair ups in under 2 hours.

End of August took me to Turkeymill, Maidstone assisting Katherine on her wedding day. It was a huge honour to work with all these brides on their special day.

My airbrush has been hard at work; heat resistant and water proof it creates a flawless look great for brides. My brand of choice has to be Airbase. As lovely as it is to have sunshine on your wedding day July/August temperature's were exceptionally high so airbrush is a great guarantee makeup stays in the right place.

Earlier this month I attended ESPA training as part of my Spa Therapist role at Ashford International. It was great being a student for a change, and it added to my CPD training. I learnt a lot about the ESPA brand, discovering it is 98-100% natural and paraben free was probably my highlight.

As if all this wasn't enough to keep me busy I have recently started writing for wedding magazines again, in the past I would often be found in the beauty section of Your Kent Wedding Magazine; more recently I have written a small editorial for Kent Bride 2017/18.

Vanessa Jane already has a number of bookings for 2018; if you know of anyone looking for a hair/makeup artist please be sure to pass on our details. Any enquiries quoting blog0917 will receive a 10% discount on the package price.
